Off, for now

Assalamu alaykum sisters,

it's been a while since I posted but I am not back for good, just a quick visit.
I am sorry to disappoint you all, but I won't be blogging for a while, don't know yet for how long. It all depends how long it will take for my life to go back on track. And that maybe never as we know nothing is forever, things changed as much as we dislike it. Mash'Allah wa hamdulillah Allah has blessed me with big and small tests for a while now. It's a blessing as I feel much closer to my Creator and also I am learning a lot on the way. Mash'Allah. Things that I thought could never happened, did indeed happened. Things I was not happy about became a reality and as a result my health paid the price. But hamdulilah to be a Muslim as I find comfort in the Qur'an and reading duas.
So for now I'd like to say jazakallahu kheiran to all of you for your kind support and messages.
Please remember me and my kids in your duas,

Speechless...again!

Saturday, 3 January 2009

The day my kids learnt...

...who the Muslims really are!!!

Assalamu alaykum
today we attended the rally in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.

We set off in the early afternoon and together with a dear friend, we went to Embankment where the peace protest was gathering.

When we get off we couldn't believe the sheer of people! Muslims and non. Allah Akbar!!
We were quickly given couple of banners and leaflets as we enter the heart of the protest. My kids were so amazed by the amount of people, thousands and thousands, Muslims and non, Palestinians and all around the world!

We walked slowly down the street shouting our anger and frustration (kids enjoyed this part): Free, Free Palestine!
We passed by the Parliament and Downing Street. The protest was really well organized and very peaceful. We stopped at Trafalgar Square where speakers took the mic and spoke out about the real situation in Gaza.
At some point I felt so emotional and I could see my friend was too.

This was the day when my kids learnt that a Muslim is like a body, when one part of the body hurts, all the body hurt, and we are all in pain!!! Yes, in pain for Palestine!!
Allah Akbar!

Please keep the Palestinians in your duas

When in the Masjid! I have been Tagged!!!

Assalamu alaykum,
so that's the second time I have been tagged. Sorry it took me so long to reply. Just to say jazak'Allahu kheir to sister Naimah as the tag will be a great way for me to share some ahadith that are in my heart, mash'Allah.
Here the rules:
The Rules:
Link back to the person who tagged you.
List 3 ahadith you’d like to pin up in your masjid and why.
Tag some of your fellow bloggers by linking to them in your post and don’t forget to post a comment on their blog to let them know they’ve been tagged.

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 76, Number 421:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:
The Prophet (sallahu alayhe wa sallam) said, "There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) Health and free time for doing good."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 2:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man said. "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man further said, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man asked for the fourth time, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your father. "
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 24:
Narrated 'Aisha:
(the wife of the Prophet) A lady along with her two daughters came to me asking me (for some alms), but she found nothing with me except one date which I gave to her and she divided it between her two daughters, and then she got up and went away. Then the Prophet came in and I informed him about this story. He said, "Whoever is in charge of (put to test by) these daughters and treats them generously, then they will act as a shield for him from the (Hell) Fire."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first hadith I chose is for obvious reason. we are living in an era when indeed time is so precious. We don't have much time left to do anything. Indeed we don't have time to do good. Also we only need to look around us to see how many people are facing with big financial situation and debts. may Allah protect us from debts (Ar-Riba') Amin. Those issues all makes ones mind preoccupied with dunya and not thinking about the Hereafter. The message to my brothers and sisters is: 'Lets use our time wisely and to stay away from riba' as it's a major sin'.
Also the health, as I forgot to mention earlier, I am editing my post now. Of course as years passed, our health deteriorates. To treat and cure our body we have the Prophet's (sallahu alayhe wa sallam) medicine as Islam is a complete way of life. Refering to the black seeds (nigella sativa) The Prophet (sallahu alayhe wa sallam) said: "A cure for every disease except death." (Sahih Bukhari). Hamdulillah.

The last two ahadith, are in my heart, they remind me of my mother and her struggles to bring me up in the best way. Hamdulillah. Also I am looking to my kids and praying they will too one day look at me and think about my trials and tribulations to do what's best for them. Amin
I pray that the following generations will follow the advice of our Prophet (sallahu alayhe wa sallam) and treat their mothers well and respect their parents. 'Without them you would not be here'.

I would like to tag the following sisters:
Um Nour
Home Ed Sweden
Always Learning
Ummi homeschools me!

I wanted to tag couple of more blogs, but they all seems to have taken a blog-rest! :)

That's why there is so much pain and suffering...

Assalamu alaykum,
feeling better. Still not 100% but hamdulillah better. Today i have received this one in my email. Just sharing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST EXPLANATIONS OF WHY ALLAH ALLOWS PAIN
AND SUFFERING THAT I HAVE SEEN:
A MAN WENT TO A BARBERSHOP TO HAVE HIS HAIR CUT AND HIS
BEARD TRIMMED. AS THE BARBER BEGAN TO WORK, THEY BEGAN TO HAVE A GOOD CONVERSATION.
THEY TALKED ABOUT SO MANY THINGS AND VARIOUS SUBJECTS.
WHEN THEY EVENTUALLY TOUCHED ON THE SUBJECT OF ALLAH, THE BARBER SAID: 'I DON'T BELIEVE THAT ALLAH EXISTS.' 'WHY DO YOU SAY THAT?' ASKED THE CUSTOMER. 'WELL, YOU JUST HAVE TO GO OUT IN THE STREET TO REALIZE THAT ALLAH DOESN'T EXIST. TELL ME, IF ALLAH EXISTS, WOULD THERE BE SO MANY SICK PEOPLE? WOULD THERE BE ABANDONED CHILDREN? IF ALLAH EXISTED, THERE WOULD BE NEITHER SUFFERING NOR PAIN.
I CAN'T IMAGINE A LOVING ALLAH WHO WOULD ALLOW ALL OF THESE THINGS.
' THE CUSTOMER THOUGHT FOR A MOMENT, BUT DIDN'T RESPOND BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO START AN ARGUMENT. THE BARBER FINISHED HIS JOB AND THE CUSTOMER LEFT THE SHOP.
JUST AFTER HE LEFT THE BARBERSHOP, HE SAW A MAN IN THE STREET WITH LONG, STRINGY, DIRTY HAIR AND AN UNTRIMMED BEARD. HE LOOKED DIRTY AND UNKEMPT. THE CUSTOMER TURNED BACK AND ENTERED THE BARBER SHOP AGAIN AND HE SAID TO THE BARBER: 'YOU KNOW WHAT? BARBERS DO NOT EXIST.'
'HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?' ASKED THE SURPRISED BARBER. 'I AM HERE, AND I AM A BARBER. AND I JUST WORKED ON YOU!'
NO!' THE CUSTOMER EXCLAIMED. 'BARBERS DON'T EXIST BECAUSE IF THEY DID, THERE WOULD BE NO PEOPLE WITH DIRTY LONG HAIR AND UNTRIMMED BEARDS, LIKE THAT MAN OUTSIDE.'
'AH, BUT BARBERS DO EXIST! THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT COME TO ME.' 'EXACTLY!' AFFIRMED THE CUSTOMER. 'THAT'S THE POINT! ALLAH,TOO, DOES EXIST! THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT GO TO HIM AND DON'T LOOK TO HIM FOR HELP.
THAT'S WHY THERE'S SO MUCH PAIN AND SUFFERING IN THE WORLD.'

From my sister that is leaving, some words of advice!

Assalamu alayku,
this email was in my inbox today and I couldn't stop reading it, it touched me so deeply and felt so strong to post it here for all to benefit, insh'Allah.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assalam-u-laikum Wahrahmtallahi Wabrakatuhu
Alhumdulillahi Rabbiaalimeen and we ask Allah subhanawatala to send His blessings upon our Beloved Prophet sallaah alayi wasaalaam.

I just wanted to say a big jazakallahu khairun for yesterday mashallaah for making time in between your hectic lives, for being so organised and coming together with your children too in an ideal setting for sisters and kids, ordering the food especially the cake subhanallaah and last but not least the tasteful and very special gifts mashallaah. It was very thoughtful, humbling and moving and my tears were out of fear that you sisters may see something in me which is not true and I sincerely ask Allah tala to forgive me if the people misjudge me. The gifts are wonderful and I have used the ipod all day subhanallah- a whole new world has opened up for me- Great way of switching off and not allowing shaytaan to attack you when you are most vulnerable tired etc. and giving you the calm you need to manage the next spat between the kids- joys of summer holidays...Alhumdulillahi Rabbilaaalimeen
Words can't truly express my gratitude but I ask you to forgive my errors and you are all in my duas.

For now, some nasiyyah which is pressing on my heart- please don't press sisters on their personal affairs. Do not take it personally if you don't know everything about a sisters life. Subhanallaah- make excuses for each other and be pleased for each other but don't allow shaytaan to come between you and a sister if she does not share every last detail of her life with you. There may be just cause for a sister being cautious in what she shares with you and you must not make her feel uncomfortable and embarassed by enquiring about her affairs. This is alluded to in Surah Hujeraat and in An- Nawaawi hadith. Furthermore, this is such an important matter of good etiquette which I feel is being neglected and we need to revive amongst ourselves inshallaah. Even when you visit someone and they don't answer the door and don't let you in, make excuses for them. You may have arrived at an incovenient time and this can make the person feel more awkward if they feel forced to open the door. They may feel too shy to turn you away but at the same time have a valid reason for not inviting you in. So, show this respect to one another by arranging a time to visit in advance or even calling just before you arrive inshallaah.
I find that there is a culture of people wanting to know about others lives but not sharing things about themselves. If someone shares something with you in secret, you must guard this secret. It is not appropriate to disclose it if they spoke to you in private subhanallaah. Please, can we show this respect to each other and not pry any further as this is not necessary. From the etiquettes of the Muslim woman, please find below the extract from the well -known text on The Ideal Muslimah by Muhammad Ali- Al Hashmi:
She does not interfere in that which does not concern her.
The true Muslim woman is wise and discerning; she does not interfere in that which does not concern her, nor does she concern herself with the private lives of the women around her. She does not stick her nose into their affairs or force herself on them in any way, because this could result in sin or blame on her part. By seeking to avoid interfering in that which does not concern her, she protects herself from vain and idle talk, as she is adhering to a sound Islamic principle that raises the Muslim above such foolishness, furnishes him with the best of attitudes, and guides him towards the best way of dealing with others:
"A sign of a person's being a good Muslim is that he should leave alone that which does not concern him."39
Abu Hurayrah (RAA) reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said:
"Allah (SWT) likes three things for you and dislikes three things. He likes for you to worship Him, not to associate anything with Him, and to hold fast, all together, by the Rope which He (stretches out for you), and not to be divided among yourselves [cf. Al `Imran 3:103]. And He dislikes for you to pass on stories and gossip, to ask too many questions, and to waste money."40
The divinely-guided society which has been formed by Islam has no room for passing on stories and gossip, asking too many questions, or interfering in the private affairs of others, because the members of such a society are too busy with something much more important, which is the establishing of the word of Allah (SWT) on earth, taking the banner of Islam to the four corners of the earth, and spreading its values among mankind. Those who are engaged in such great missions do not have the time to indulge in such sins.
May Allah subhanawatala reward you all for your kindness and friendship to me and I ask Allah tala to keep us united for His sake and for us to strive to benefit one another in matters of deen inshallaah.
all my duas

Puff-Puff

Assalamu alaykum,

I got this recipe from a dear Nigerian friend. They look like doughnuts but are not filled.

Makes 40-60 balls.

2 cups (or about ½ liter) flour

2 cups (or about ½ liter) water

½ cup (or about an eighth of a liter) sugar

2 teaspoons yeast

Some vegetable oil to fry.

Directions.
Mix the flour, sugar, water, and yeast together until the batter is smooth.
Wait until the dough has risen. About 2½ hours or so should do. (I've heard that if you use quick-rising yeast, you don't have to wait, but I have not tried it yet.)
Put vegetable oil into a pot, until it is at least 2 inches (or about 5 centimeters) high (too little will result in flatter balls), and place on low heat.
Test to make sure the oil is hot enough by putting a 'drop' of batter into the oil. If it is not hot enough, the batter will stay at the bottom of the pot rather than rising to the top.
When the oil is hot enough, use a spoon to dish up the batter, and another spoon or spatula to drop it in the oil, sort of in the shape of a ball.
Fry for a few minutes until the bottom side is golden brown.
Turn the ball over and fry for a few more minutes until the other side is golden brown.
Use a large spoon or something like that to take it out of the oil. I usually place them on napkins right away to soak up some of the excess oil.
If desired, you can roll the finished product in table sugar or powdered sugar to make it sweeter.

An Ode to English Plurals

Assalamu alaykum,

I have received this in my inbox. My kids enjoyed it when I read it to them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An ode to English Plurals

We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes.

One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,

Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.

You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,

Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.

If the plural of man is always called men,

Why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?

If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,

And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?

If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,

Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?

Then one may be that, and three would be those,

Yet hat in the plural would never be hose,

And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.

We speak of a brother and also of brethren,

But though we say mother, we never say methren.

Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,

But imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim!

Let's face it - English is a crazy language.

There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;

neither apple nor pine in pineapple.

English muffins weren't invented in England .

We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes,we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend.

If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?

If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

Sometimes I think all the folks who grew up speaking English should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane.

In what other language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?

We ship by truck but send cargo by ship.

We have noses that run and feet that smell.

We park in a driveway and drive in a parkway.

And how can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

And in closing, if Father is Pop, how come Mother's not Mop?

Assalamu alaykum,
so sis Oum Anas tagged me!! Jazak'Allahu kheir. That gave me the chance to look up the story behind the 'six words memoir'.

Here's my 6 words memoir.

SALVATION LIES BETWEEN HOPE AND FEAR!

And the short story behind it...
In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway bet ten dollars that he could write a complete story in just six words. He wrote: "For Sale: baby shoes, never worn." He won the bet. Now an online magazine is asking its readers to sum up their own lives in just six words.
Smith, the American online magazine, has used the Hemingway anecdote to inspire its readers to write their life story in just six words, culminating in a book of the best contributions, entitled "Not Quite What I Was Planning".

I am going to tag:
Sister Umm Salihah- Sister Iman - Sister Aminah - Sister Qalballah - Sister Um Nour - Sister Nadia
